Education Job Overview

Education is one of the most important aspects of modern society, helping to provide people with better long-term prospects, both in terms of work and general life. Occupations within the education industry cover all stages, ranging from nursery and primary school, right the way through to university. For many people, the education industry is an excellent career path to choose, offering a rare combination of responsibility and reward at all levels. Examples of popular jobs which fall within the education sector include teachers, admissions officers and academic counsellors.

Education Job Education Requirements

Most jobs in the education industry require a high level of academic achievement and teaching roles will typically require a university degree, as well as GCSE grades of C or above in English, mathematics and science. Moreover, teaching in a state-maintained school will require applicants to have obtained Qualified Teacher Status, which is usually achieved by studying a teaching degree or gaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.

Education Job Market

Due to the constant demand for trained educators in the United Kingdom, teaching and related careers are usually viewed as a worthwhile investment, with solid long-term prospects. Indeed, research shows that the overall number of education jobs increased between 2013 and 2014, with increases in the number of teaching jobs for key stages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Additionally, there was a significant increase in the number of nursery jobs over the same time period. More generally, teachers seeking to work in science, technology or mathematics have especially good prospects, due to a shortage of teachers with backgrounds in those subjects.
